We’ve lost the simple art of listening

We live in an age where personal truth has become absolute truth, making us incapable of accepting any contrary information that doesn’t support our own beliefs.

At a time when its easier than ever to be heard we spend more time trying to convince everyone else that we know the truth. Personal truth is just an opinion. Nearly all truth that’s ever existed has changed with new information.

If we continue to reject anything that doesn’t conform to what we believe we reject it without really listening, we can never learn and grow. We grow by accepting new information about ourselves and the world around us.

Listening makes us better. Its how we know and love and avoid situations and relationships that may be harmful. What we avoid still exists, but in a subconscious way. If we reject information that shows us something about ourselves that we may not like, the energy and effect of that part of ourselves still exists and usually cause pain and suffering.

Personal truth is really an opinion and when viewed from this perspective we allow ourselves to grow and become better versions of ourselves. Living with acceptance of others and compassion for each other. We become more aware of the thread that connects us all. We are much more similar than dis-similar and our connection to each other is what makes life special. When we open our hearts and minds and are capable of accepting a different truth than our own, we live with grace in a way that reflects the best of our humanity.

Disclaimer: I write what comes to me in quiet moments. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with thoughts and ideas that I have to wake up and write down. At times the words flow without any effort and its at those times I know that a source outside of myself but deeply connected is sharing information with me. I’ve resisted editing the way the information is shared and realize that there is a strong tone to the words expressed, but feel compelled to share it as it comes to me.
